DESCRIPTION
This unusually large lunar meteorite weighs an incredible 371 grams and has been classified as a lunar feldspathic breccia. The meteorite exhibits a fascinating smooth cratered surface as a result of the heat of entry through Earth's atmosphere, with striking white and the far less common red clasts found in Laâyoune 002, making it especially desirable. This feldspathic breccia’s composition includes known lunar meteorite minerals, such as olivine, augite, and anorthite. Laâyoune is the largest city in Western Sahara and is thought to have been founded by Spanish captain Antonio de Pro in 1938. The name means “the springs,” referring to the oases that furnish the city with water. If you have ever wanted to own a piece of the moon, now is your chance!
