This Gemini 8 Patch is 3 inches in diameter and was produced by the official NASA patch manufacturer, AB Emblem. Gemini 8 was the sixth mission under the Gemini Program and launched on March 17, 1966. Command Pilot Neil Armstrong and Pilot Dave Scott orbited the Earth 6 times in their Gemini spacecraft. The crew performed the first docking of two spacecraft in Earth orbit, but while doing so suffered the first critical system failure while in space of any US spacecraft. The failure resulted in the immediate cancellation of the docking attempt and mission abort.
