This official Apollo 8 Patch is 4 inches in diameter and was manufactured by AB Emblem. Apollo 8 was the 2nd manned launch of the program and the first orbiting the moon. The crew consisted of Commander Frank Borman, Lunar Module Pilot Bill Anders and Command Module Pilot Jim Lovell. The mission was originally intended to be set for Apollo 9 as the second test of the whole Apollo Command Service Module, this included the Lunar Module, in an elliptical medium Earth orbit. But when it became evident that the LM was not ready to make its first lower Earth orbit, it was decided that Apollo 8 would fly to the moon instead.
