DESCRIPTION
Flown aboard America's first spacewalk mission in June 1965
Exquisitely detailed Gemini Capsule pin cast from sterling silver flown aboard the Gemini 4 mission by astronaut Jim McDivitt. This presentation also includes a triangular piece of the same flown silver to serve as a before and after.
In June 1965, history was made when astronaut Ed White became the first American astronaut to conduct a spacewalk during the Gemini IV mission. While outside the Gemini capsule, White used the Hand-Held Self-Maneuvering Unit (HHSMU), informally known as the Zap Gun, to maneuver. As White maneuvered around the spacecraft's exterior, his fellow astronaut and crew mate, Jim McDivtt, took photographs of the famous spacewalk, which were published worldwide. Interestingly, the photographs showed Ed White wearing an Omega Speedmaster chronograph watch on his spacesuit sleeve—something that Omega was unaware of until the photographs were published. The Omega watch can even be found on the wrist of this Gemini Capsule pin, such is the level of detail we were able to accomplish. The Omega Speedmaster went on to become the official NASA watch used by astronauts during missions.
The Gemini Capsule pin was designed to be as historically accurate as possible, with every attention to detail. The pin smelting and casting were conducted by Just Castings Ltd in London, UK. Just Castings Ltd is known for its exquisite quality and attention to detail, so much so that it was awarded a Royal Warrant by Her Majesty the Queen and currently serves the British Royal Family as a precious metal caster.
Each pin is numbered on the reverse along with our company logo for authenticity using a high-precision laser.

Authentication Information:
The Gemini Capsule pin and accompanying triangle piece of sterling silver came directly from the collection of Gemini 4 Command Pilot Jim McDivitt. The sterling silver, originally in plate form, was melted down and cast into these exquisitely detailed pins, with the remaining silver being divided into triangles and included with each pin as a before and after. The Gemini Capsule is cast entirely from the flown silver, but the pin spike and pin back are made from unflown silver, so they can be removed or replaced if damaged without sacrificing any of the historic flown silver.
